Handforth Model Engineering Society
HMES is the home of Handforth Miniature Railway at Meriton Road Park in Handforth.
We run trains for the public and have an active membership of hobbyists.
Ride with us
Running of trains is dependent on the weather and availability of club members. Please check this website or our social media to see if we are running.
- We run regularly on Sundays 11 – 3
- Our workshop team meet on Wednesdays 11 – 3 and will be happy to give rides on request
Track and Facilities
The society has laid a ground level 7¼” track and raised 3½” and 5″ tracks in Meriton Road Park.
The park pavilion serves as our clubhouse and workshop, and we have built underground storage for the carriages.
Locomotives
Gordon
Gordon is the diesel-electric locomotive you are likely to see running every Sunday at HMES during the summer.
Ken
Ken is a battery powered electric locomotive which is convenient and quiet to run at short notice.
Lostock
Lostock is an 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotive based on an original designed and built by W.G. Bagnall in their Castle Engine Works in Castletown, Stafford.
The club has access to many different locomotives, owned by club members and the club itself.

Community
We suggest a minimum donation of £1 per ride. Donations help us to cover costs for fuel, insurance, materials etc.
In addition to donations from the public and members subscriptions, we occasionally receive grant funding and larger donations.

Membership
New members are always welcome, and can join by filling in or membership form. If you would like to find out more about the society please feel free to contact one of our committee members.
